RMH Volunteer Service - Making a difference at The Royal Melbourne Hospital

The Royal Melbourne Hospital Volunteer Service operates across the hospital’s City and Royal Park campuses. The service has over 300 volunteers across 18 service programs and 6 fundraising programs & support groups.
Each program volunteer plays a vital role in improving services and care for patients and their families, as well as supporting staff across the organisation. The Royal Melbourne Hospital Volunteer Service has an integral role in helping the organisation to meet the strategic goals outlined in the Melbourne Health Strategic Plan 2010 – 2015.
Some of the areas where volunteers can support patients and staff at The Royal Melbourne Hospital City and Royal Park Campuses include:

Volunteer Desk Escort patients or visitors around the hospital, and provide wheelchair assistance as required |
Ward Visit - Rehabilitation Unit Share activities with patients in rehabilitation at our Royal Park campus |
Ward Visit – City Campus Visit patients in various wards

Craft volunteers Make craft items at home for us to sell on our stalls |
Transit Lounge Collect patients from wards/departments and provide support to patients and staff

Guide Service Meet, greet, escort and provide general assistance to patients and visitors |
Event Assist Assist with preparation for events or raffles on a casual basis

Stall Volunteer Sell donated books and crafts in the hospital foyer |
Ward Assist Provide support to patients and staff in a busy ward environment
|
Newspaper Trolley Sell daily newspapers to patients in the wards |
Emergency Department Provide support for patients and family while they wait to be seen

Ward Visit – Royal Park Campus Support older patients and their families at our Royal Park campus |
Best Care for Older People Spend time with older patients in the wards at our City & Royal Park campuses

Library Service Deliver books and magazines to patients in wards and restock waiting room areas |
Clinic Assist Escort patients to specialist clinic areas and departments

Ward Visit – Palliative Care Support patients and their families in the Palliative Care Ward |
Admin Assist Assist various departments at RMH |
BreastScreen Be a friendly face for women visiting the service at our Royal Park campus |
How to apply to join The Royal Melbourne Hospital Volunteer Service
Interested Volunteers are required to attend a Volunteer Information Session to be scheduled in:
February 2012 (this session is now full)
All applications received after the 1st December 2011 will be referred to the September 2012 Information session.
