The Division of Medicine and Community Care at The Royal Melbourne Hospital includes inpatient and outpatient services for:
Two Residential Care facilities operate at the RMH Royal Park Campus: Parkville Hostel and Gardenviewcomplex care facility. The campus also manages two off-site facilities: Boyne Russell House and Cyril Jewell House nursing homes.
5 South East General Medicine
5 South East is a 28-bed unit that provides a service to general medical patients and incorporates a Delirium Management Unit. 5 South East is supported by a Clinical Nurse Educator and a Clinical Support Nurse who provide clinical education and support such as:
- Orientation Program
- In-service Education
- Short Course Program
- Graduate Nurse Program
- Clinical Development Program
- Postgraduate Certificate Program
5 South West- General/Respiratory Medicine
5 South West is a 28-bed unit that provides a service to general medical unit 2 and 3 patients and incorporates a 4 bed Respiratory Care Unit. The RCU admits patients requiring high dependency care for non invasive ventilation, through to respiratory rehabilitation.
5 South West is supported by a Clinical Nurse Educator and a Clinical Support Nurse who provide clinical education and support such as:
- Orientation Program
- In-service Education
- Short Course Program
- Graduate Nurse Program
- Clinical Development Program
- Postgraduate Certificate Program
Medical assessment and planning unit (MAPU)
MAPU is a 19-bed unit that provides assessment and development of a collaborative treatment plan for all general medical patients
MAPU is supported by a Clinical Nurse Educator and a Clinical Support Nurse who provide clinical education and support such as:
- Orientation Program
- In-service Education
- Short Course Program
- Graduate Nurse Program
- Clinical Development Program
- Postgraduate Certificate Program
Palliative Care
The Palliative Care inpatient unit at Melbourne Health is a 10-bed facility that providescoordinated medical, nursing and allied services for people who have a progressive, life-threatening and/or life-ending illness.
The Palliative Care unit is supported by a Clinical Nurse Educator and a Clinical Support Nurse who provide clinical education and support such as:
Orientation Program
In-service Education
Short Course Program
Graduate Nurse Program
Clinical Development Program
Postgraduate Certificate Program
Ward AC1
AC1 is a 20-bed unit at Royal Park Campus that provides a service to Geriatric Evaluation and Management patients presenting with a range of medical and post surgical conditions with an added complexity of moderately to severely impaired cognition.
AC1 is supported by a team of three (3) nurse educators who provide clinical education and support such as:
- Orientation Program
- In-service Education
- Graduate Nurse Program
- Clinical Development Program
Ward AC2 and AC3
AC2 & AC3 are purpose built units with 24 and 20 beds respectively. It provides services to Geriatric Evaluation and Management patients presenting with a range of medical and post surgical conditions.
GEM is supported by a team of three (3) nurse educators who provide clinical education and support such as:
- Orientation Program
- In-service Education
- Graduate Nurse Program
- Clinical Development Program
Ward 6SE- Rehabilitation and Aged Care (RAC)
Rehabilitation (RAC) is a 16-bed sub-acute unit that provides a service to older people who require rehabilitation and/or further assessment and evaluation of care needs prior to discharge. RAC is supported by a Clinical Nurse Educator who provides clinical education and support such as:
- Orientation Program
- In-service Education
- Short Course Program
- Graduate Nurse Program
- Clinical Development Program
Boyne Russell House
Boyne Russell House is a 30-bed, high level Residential Care facility located in Brunswick.
Boyne Russell House is supported by a clinical nurse educator who provide clinical education and support such as:
- Orientation Program
- In-service Education
- Clinical Development Program
Cyril Jewell House
Cyril Jewell House is a 45-bed, high level Residential Care facility located in East Keilor. The facility has a 15 bed Muliple Sclerosis wing for patients younger than 65 years and 30 aged care beds.
Cyril Jewell House is supported by a clinical nurse educator who provide clinical education and support such as:
- Orientation Program
- In-service Education
- Clinical Development Program
Gardenview
Gardenview is a 24-bed complex care facility located at the RMH Royal Park campus. The facility provides time-limited, high-level Residential Care. A particular focus is maximising the independence of residents who are slow to recover from an injury.
Gardenview House is supported by a clinical nurse educator who provide clinical education and support such as:
- Orientation Program
- In-service Education
- Clinical Development Program
Parkville Hostel
Parkville Hostel is located at our RMH Royal Park Campus and provides hostel accommodation and personal care for 60 elderly residents. It also provides respite care, usually for periods of two to four weeks.
Parkville Hostel is supported by a clinical nurse educator who provide clinical education and support such as:

- In-service Education
- Clinical Development Program
