  Information for Clinical Coordinators

Responsibilities for Clinical Coordinators include: 

  1. Ensure that clinical teachers have a copy of the guidelines prior to the commencement of the clinical placement.
  2. Clinical teachers are to be appropriately experienced/qualified for their teaching role
  3. Liaise with the RMH Clinical Placement Co-ordinator.
  4. Ensure that clinical teachers liaise with RMH Clinical Placement Co-ordinator
  5. Teacher-student ratio of one to eight to be maintained except when a student is on clinical placement for perioperative experience or is following a patient through a perioperative procedure.
  6. Students on placement in the Operating Room.
  7. Should have a minimum of one week, but preferably two weeks experience.
  8. Must have some introductory theory to provide the fundamental knowledge that will prepare them for the clinical experience.
  9. Must have clear objectives for a placement in the Operating Room.
  10. Will be matched with a preceptor who will also conduct the assessment.
  11. Will provided an appropriate assessment tool to the preceptor with the objectives at least one week prior to the placement.
  12. Perioperative experience can be arranged for the student who wishes to follow a patient through a perioperative procedure. This can be organised through the university Clinical Teacher who will contact the Operating Room Clinical Nurse Educator. When a student is following a patient through a perioperative procedure, the assigned clinical teacher must be contactable.
  13. Ensure that contact details are provided to students prior to the first day of placement.
  14. Any student whose general performance still requires development is not to be allocated to specialty areas ie. CCU
